Methoxy propyl acetate, also known as propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate, is a clear, colourless liquid with a mild ether-like odour. It is only slightly soluble in water but miscible with most common organic solvents. Methoxy propyl acetate is slightly hygroscopic, relatively fast evaporating and has a low viscosity. It enters into reactions which are characteristic of both esters and ethers, displaying their good solvent power.
Methoxy propyl acetate is produced by reacting propylene oxide with methanol using a catalyst.

Product Application:
Selected applications of Methoxypropyl Acetate are presented below. By virtue of its good solvent power for numerous resins and dyes, Methoxypropyl Acetate can be used as a solvent, flow improver and coalescent in coatings. It is particularly suitable for coatings containing polyisocyanates. In this case, it is important that the peroxide fraction is as small as possible, as otherwise the colour of the final product may change. It is for this reason that we stabilize our solvent with 2,6-di-t-butyl-p-cresol(BHT). Other applications for Methoxypropyl Acetate include

  • flexographic, gravure and screen printing inks
  • adhesives
  • ball pen pastes
  • dyes in furniture polishes or woodstains
  • dye solutions and pastes for printing and colouring leather and textiles. Yet another application for Methoxypropyl Acetate is as a binder forcore sands in foundries.

Vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) is a key intermediate used in the making of a number of polymers and resins for adhesives, coatings, paints, films, textiles and other end-products.
The largest derivative is polyvinyl acetate (PVA) which is mainly used in adhesives as it has good adhesion properties to a number of substrates including paper, wood, plastic films and metals. Other uses for PVA include paper coatings, paints and industrial coatings.
The second largest consumer of VAM is polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) which is manufactured from PVA. Main uses for PVOH include textiles, adhesives, packaging films, thickeners and photosensitive coatings.

Product Application:
PVOH is also used in the manufacture of polyvinyl butyral (PVB), a resin that has strong adhesion, clarity and toughness properties. PVB is mainly used in laminated glass for automobiles and commercial buildings by providing the protective and transparent interlayer that is bonded between two panes of glass. It can also be used in coatings and inks.
VAM is consumed in the manufacture of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and vinyl acetate ethylene (VAE). EVA, which has less than 50% vinyl acetate in content, is mainly used for films and wire and cable insulation. VAE, which contains more than 50% vinyl acetate, is primarily used as cement additives, paints and adhesives.
A fast growing use of VAM is the manufacture of ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) which is used as a barrier resin in food packaging, plastic bottles and gasoline tanks, and in engineering polymers.
Other VAM derivatives include vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymers which have major applications in coatings, paints and adhesives. Polyvinyl formal is used for wire enamels and magnetic tape.
It is estimated that approximately 80% of global VAM production is used to make PVA and PVOH, with most of the remaining volume going to PVB, EVA copolymers and EVOH resins.
World growth for VAM is expected to be 4%/year with the strongest growth in Asia, particularly China.
In Europe, the economic slowdown has hit VAM consumption, notably in the paints and adhesives sectors and construction.

Floor Polish Stripper
This is a heavy duty floor polish stripper.

Using Procedure:
How to strip a floor  :::—
The purpose of stripping a floor is to remove all the old floor finish off the floor.  Over time floor finish can turn yellow and can build a haze.  If burnishing or polishing your floor does not correct this, it’s probably time to strip your floors and do a new recoat.  Stripping a floor can be a quick and clean procedure if you have the correct tools for the job.  The use of a good floor stripper will make your life much easier, it’s better to have the floor stripper remove the wax rather than using hard labor. Removing old floor finish is basically a three step process:
Apply the floor stripper and agitate it.
Remove the floor stripper from the floor.
Rinse the floor and neutralize the floor stripper.

Procedure:
Make sure that your floor has been prepared for stripping.  Clean the floor removing as much dirt and debris as possible.
After you have the floor prepared vacuum or dust mop the floor to remove any dust.  We recommend that you spray your duct mop with dust mop treatment to remove as much dust as possible.  Make sure to remove anything stuck to the floor because this will gum up or rip the floor pad.
Make sure that the floor you are stripping does not and will not have traffic moving through it.  Use warning signs to make sure the area where you are stripping is marked out so that everyone is aware of the area.
Stripping a floor requires a mop bucket, cotton or blended mop, floor machine (175-300rpm’s) and a black or hi-pr stripping floor pad.  Follow the specifications for applying the floor stripper.  Fill the mop bucket up 1/2 way with the floor stripper.  Dip the mop into the stripper a slightly wrong.  Break the floor down into 6′ by 6′ sections and start applying the stripper to the floor at the furthest corner of the room.  Apply the stripper in a figure 8 motion overlapping each stroke by about an inch.  After you have applied the stripper let it sit on the floor for 5-7 minutes.  This will give the stripper a chance to react with the floor finish.
Next place a hi-pro or black floor pad on your floor machines.  When stripping a floor move the floor machine back and forth on the floor overlapping by at least 1 inch on each pass.  As the floor finish is removed from the floor it will become duller.  You may need to spend extra time on areas with finish buildup.  The main traffic area on the floor will have less buildup than low traffic areas.
Once used the floor machine on the 6′ by 6′ area removes the stripper from the floor using either a blended mop of wet dry vacuum preferably one that has a front mount squeegee.  Do not let the stripper finish the mixture dry.  if the area does dry apply more stripper to loosen the finish.
After you have removed the floor stripper from the floor, rinse the floor with warm water.  Rinse the floor two more times with cold water.
After the third rinse with plain water, rinse the floor with a floor stripper neutralizer.  Neutralizer will reduce the white residue left by the floor stripper so that the floor finish can adhere to the floor much better.
After the neutralizer dries check for white residue on the floor using a black towel.  If residue still exists, rinse one more time with cold water.  Once all these steps have been completed check the floor for shiny spots.  If shiny spots are evident you may need to re-strip these areas.

Lead Oxide, a range of products that is formed by the oxidation of Lead in the forms of liquid and solid. Lead oxides are basically an oxide’s family varying in color (grey/green, red, and yellow), in degree of oxidation (PbO, Pb3O4, PbO2) and in crystal structure (in forms of PbO, orthogonal and tetragonal).
Lead oxide is a term that can be either Lead monoxide or litharge Lead tetroxide or Red Lead or Gray or Black oxide which is a mixture of 30 percent metallic Lead and 70 percent Lead monoxide. Black Lead is made for specific use in Lead acid storage batteries manufacturing. Due to large use in the Lead acid battery industry, Lead monoxide is one of the most important compounds of Lead, based on volume. Due to its electrical and electronic properties, litharge is also used in various components for different types of use like capacitors, electro photographic plates, and Video tubes, even in ferromagnetic and ferroelectric materials. Their wide range of chemical and physical properties, Lead oxides have been known and used worldwide since before the ancient Romans.

Product Application:
Lead oxide in batteries: This is the most dominant application for Lead oxide. Oxide for battery applications can be further classified into three major types of battery.
SLI (starting, lighting, and ignition): Every vehicle that has a Lead-acid battery uses 5-10 kg of Lead oxide in its production. This represents a vast use of Lead oxide on a worldwide basis.
Traction batteries: These types of batteries are designed for multiple charge-discharge cycles and tend to use red Lead (Pb3O4) oxide in their production. These are used to power all manner of electrical vehicles like fork lift trucks, golf carts, milk floats, etc.
Stationary batteries: These are batteries required for stand-by power applications in case of mains supply failure in hospitals, computer installations, telecoms networks, etc. Again, red Lead (Pb3O4) oxide is common in these units.
Lead oxide as pigments: The major Lead pigment is red Lead (Pb3O4), which is used principally in ferrous metal protective paints Litharge -a bright yellow form of Lead monoxide still finds applications in the production of yellow pigments.
Lead oxide in glass: Leaded glass crystal can contain 24-28% of Lead oxide which enhances clarity and density. The overall average of television tubes contains 5- 8 kg of Lead oxide to absorb harmful radiation. Optical fibers also rely on Lead oxide to enhance the refractive index. Lead oxides are also used in special optical glasses, x-ray protection glasses, etc.
Lead oxide in ceramics: Lead oxides have been used in glazes and enamels since antiquity. Lead oxide enhances the thermal, color and wears properties of such coatings.
Lead oxide in PVC: Lead oxide is used as Lead stabilisers in PVC processing. The Lead stabilisers improve the thermal stability of PVC, allowing high temperature processing as well as improving the electrical and UV resistance properties. Common PVC applications are in window profiles, cable sheathing, pipe work, and ducting.
It also has important markets in the production of many Lead chemicals, dry colors, soaps.

Inhalation exposure to lead is considered to be significant if the amount of lead in the air is more than half the lead-in-air standard i.e.. >0.075 mg/m3 over an 8 hour working day. Concentration in the human body is significant if it exceeds 40 micrograms/100ml of blood.
