Formic Acid, systematically named methanoic acid, is the simplest carboxylic acid, and has the chemical formula HCOOH. The chemical composition is HCOOH. It is an important intermediate in chemical synthesis and occurs naturally, most notably in some ants. The word “formic” comes from the Latin word for ant, formica, referring to its early isolation by the distillation of ant bodies. Esters, salts, and the anion derived from formic acid are called formats. Industrially, formic acid is produced from methanol.
Formic acid is a colorless liquid having a pungent, penetrating odor at room temperature, not unlike the related acetic acid. It is miscible with water and most polar organic solvents, and is somewhat soluble in hydrocarbons. In hydrocarbons and in the vapor phase, it consists of hydrogen-bonded dimers rather than individual molecules. Owing to its tendency to hydrogen-bond, gaseous formic acid does not obey the ideal gas law. Solid formic acid, which can exist in either of two polymorphs, consists of an effectively endless network of hydrogen-bonded formic acid molecules. Formic acid forms a low-boiling azeotrope with water (22.4%). Liquid formic acid tends to supercool.

Product Application:
A major use of formic acid is as a preservative and antibacterial agent in livestock feed. In Europe, it is applied on silage, including fresh hay, to promote the fermentation of lactic acid and to suppress the formation of butyric acid; it also allows fermentation to occur quickly, and at a lower temperature, reducing the loss of nutritional value. Formic acid arrests certain decay processes and causes the feed to retain its nutritive value longer, and so it is widely used to preserve winter feed for cattle. In the poultry industry, it is sometimes added to feed to kill E. coli bacteria. Use as preservative for silage and (other) animal feed constituted 30% of the global consumption in 2009.
Formic acid is also significantly used in the production of leather, including tanning (23% of the global consumption in 2009), and in dyeing and finishing textiles (9% of the global consumption in 2009) because of its acidic nature. Use as a coagulant in the production of rubber consumed 6% of the global production in 2009.
Formic acid is also used in place of mineral acids for various cleaning products, such as limescale remover and toilet bowl cleaner. Some formate esters are artificial flavorings and perfumes.
Beekeepers use formic acid as a miticide against the tracheal mite (Acarapis woodi) and the Varroa destructor mite and Varroa jacobsoni mite.
Formic acid application has been reported to be an effective treatment for warts.
Formic acid can be used as a fuel cell (it can be used directly in formic acid fuel cells and indirectly in hydrogen fuel cells).
It is possible to use formic acid as an intermediary to produce isobutanol from CO2 using microbes.
Formic acid is often used as a component of mobile phase in reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) analysis and separation techniques for the separation of hydrophobic macromolecules, such as peptides, proteins and more complex structures including intact viruses. Especially when paired with mass spectrometry detection, formic acid offers several advantages over the more traditionally used phosphoric acid.

Nitric Acid 68-72% is removes iron residue and forms an oxide layer that boosts the corrosion of the stainless steel instead to improve the corrosion resistance of part made from austenitic, ferritic and martensitic corrosion resistance  steel. It is a non-foaming acid that breaks up and removes mineral deposits that build up on equipment surfaces. Used as recommended it does not corrode stainless steel.

BREATHING PROCESS OF TRANSFORMER:-
Breathing is the process where the transformer Breather-In or Breather our the air from its body due to thermal contraction & expansion of oil mass. When the transformer is loaded or unloaded, the oil temperature inside the transformer tank rises or falls accordingly the air pressure inside the tank changes by either breathing in or breathing out the air. This phenomenon is called “Breathing” of the transformer. Now, the air which is being breathed in contains either dust particles and/or humidity that change the dielectric strength of the oil. For proper functioning of a transformer, it is absolutely necessary that dielectric strength of transformer oil remains unimpaired. Hence, it is necessary that the air entering into the transformer is free from moisture & dust particles.

FUNCTION OF SILICA GEL BREATHER :-
The sole function of Silica Gel Breather is to dehydrate (remove moisture) the air & to remove dust particles of the air breathed in by the transformer.

OPERATION & WORKING OF SILICA GEL BREATHER :
Silica Gel (Air dehydrating) breathers are transparent hollow cylinder tubes which contain chemically pure silicium salt (Silica Gel) with cobalt indicator. This grade of Silica Gel is called “indicating grade” of Silica Gel.
The indicating grade of Silica Gel, which is filled in the breather, is hard blue crystals, which has considerable absorption power for moisture. Silica Gel absorbs moisture signalling the saturation degree by changing colour as follows.
DEEP BLUE Silica Gel completely dry
LIGHT BLUE Silica Gel partly humid. (Absorbed water for about 15% of its weight)

For proper functioning of transformer dehumidification of Silica Gel crystals & removal of dust particles from breathed air is necessary.
Moisture is removed from Silica Gel crystals by heating it inside a ventilated oven at to 150 C, until the colour becomes deep blue again.

Turbine Kleen 81 RX  is liquid concentrate Gas Turbine Compressor Cleaner, which is  made from surfactant and biodegradable natural enzyme based solvent chemicals. Usually compressor cleaners are formulated either from anionic, cationic or nonionic surfactants.  Turbine Kleen 81 Rx  however contains a very complex triple-active formula of cationic, nonionic and amphoteric surfactants, of which the latter is a state-of-the-art surfactant custom made for Turbine Kleen 81 Rx.

Using Procedure:
Recommendation dose is 1 part Turbine Kleen 81 Rx  with water in the proportion of 1 part 4 parts water. The product has a low trace analysis of inorganic impurities and, in order that the working solution applied to the compressor is equally low in such impurities. Use demineralised water as specified by the engine manufacturer, typically <11 S/cm. The volume of chemical solution needed per wash and the optimum cleaning frequency will depend upon engine size, operating environment and fouling tendency. It is recommended that a post rinse is performed to ensure that the nozzle system is cleaned and ready for next operation.
Turbine Kleen 81 Rx  solution is sprayed into the cranked or fired engine, according to the engine manufacturers’ approved method, using the equipment and technique appropriate to the engine being cleaned. Allowed to soak for 20 to 30 minutes then thoroughly rinsed off at cranking speed with good quality water acceptable to the engine manufacturer The volume of solution required and the flow rate will depend on engine type. Turbine Kleen 81 Rx  can be used with dilution ration 1:2 for offline cleaning, providing a superb cleaning result for heavily fouled compressors.

Cement Remover based on principal of  Chemically Back-Set formulation, which converts the positive ions in the hardened matrix into negative ions, which dissolves the cement into mud that can be rinsed away. Because it works chemically, rather than mechanically, Back-Set may be used to remove cured concrete, mortar, grout, and stucco from virtually any surface without harm.

The hardened concrete is saturated with Back-Set, either with a brush or by spraying. After 15-20 minutes, the area is again saturated with the chemical. Undiluted/Diluted: In parts such as corner cavities, tank skeleton inlets, etc, Apply RXSOL-22-2202-050 through hard brush, mop, sponge or any other manual method. Let it soak for 15 minutes. Afterwards, wash thoroughly by applying a high pressure water source. In case of deposit persistence, repeat the cleaning procedure.

METHOD :::
1.For heavy deposition and thick layers  of cement, a concentrated and  stronger cleaner will be necessary to cut through the layers of cement.
2.Use a scraper, metal scrubber or flat head screwdriver to remove as much of the cement as possible.
3.For the remaining cement, apply this chemical
4.Once the cement loosens, scrub the area with a scrubber until it is all removed from the surface.
5.Rinse the area well with clean water.
6.Clean the area with alkaline soap and water
7.Flush system completely.

Pure sodium hydroxide is a whitish solid, sold in pellets, flakes, and granular form, as well as in solution. It is highly soluble in water, with a lower solubility in ethanol and methanol, but is insoluble in ether and other non-polar solvents.

Alum Powder  (previously known as alumen) is a class of chemical compound that naturally produces itself in minerals like kalinite, alunite, and leucite. These chemicals are then treated with sulfuric acid to obtain the crystallized alum that is more renowned in the circle of commoners. It is colorless, odorless, bitter and acidic in taste. Although many types of alums are there namely soda alum, ammonium alum, chrome alum, selenate alums, and aluminum alum; it is the potash alum that we generally refer to as alum, whether in crystallized form or powdered form. Potash alum is used for various commercial purposes and more commonly for home remedies. It is prepared by dissolving water in potassium sulfate. The solution then goes through the process of evaporation after which it is precipitated to form alum crystals. These crystals are then further heated to drive away their water content and finally, what we get is the powdered form of alum. This powder has immense uses attached to it. RXSOL 1854 is a strongly alkaline liquid concentrate containing sequestrants, surfactants and other additives in aqueous solution. RXSOL 1854 is a general purpose cleaner. It will remove oil, grease, rust, carbon and many types of paint. Rust is removed without attack on the base steel and there is markedly less tendency for re-rusting to occur compared with acid pickling.

Method of use
RXSOL 1854 is used at a concentration of 25 to 50% v/v in water. The exact concentration will be determined by the particular use. The operating temperature should be kept at 82°C to 88°C. Immersion periods will vary with the type and degree of contamination. Light rust will be removed in about 15 minutes whilst heavy carbonaceous deposits may require an hour.
If the main use of this product is de-rusting and heavy contamination with oil and grease are also present it is desirable to remove the latter first in order to prolong the life of the RXSOL 1854.
Method of control
Restore the volume of the tank to its original level, if necessary, by adding water. Thoroughly mix and take a sample of 100-200ml. After allowing to cool to ambient, add active carbon, stir and allow to stand for 30 minutes. Filter solution through a Whatman No1 paper until about 100ml is obtained. Pipette 25ml into a 250ml volumetric flask. Make up to the mark with distilled water. Pipette 10ml of this solution into an Erlenmeyer flask and add 5-10 drops of Indicator No.13. Titrate against Testing solution No.9 until the blue colour is discharged leaving a pale yellow-green solution. Record the volume used as (V)ml.
The bath strength is calculated as follows:
Measured strength (%v/v RXSOL1854) = V x 1.18
Record this as (MS).
If the bath is below the required strength, add further RXSOL 1854 according to the following:
Volume RXSOL 1854 required = (CR MS) ÷ (1  (CR x 0.01)) x (TV ÷ 100)
Where CR = concentration required (%v/v).
TV = volume RXSOL 1854 solution in tank
MS = measured strength.
Effects on materials :
RXSOL 1854 is safe to use on all ferrous alloys but it will rapidly attack aluminium, zinc and tin. There is a negligible effect on magnesium, cadmium, nickel, cobalt, titanium and their alloys. Slight attack on copper may occur. Glass and ceramics will be etched by RXSOL 1854. Polythene, PVC and PTFE are substantially unaffected but degradation of some plastics and rubbers is possible.
